Giving instead of Throwing away
As part of our office modernisation, we got rid of old desktop PCs and desks. But instead of simply disposing of them, we wanted to ensure that they were given a sustainable second life cycle.
Donation of Furniture
We donated our desks, which were still in good condition, to the Bodelschwingh-Haus in Hamburg. The Bodelschwingh-Haus supports single, homeless men and trans people. It is particularly important to integrate the residents into the community and the world of work. We are delighted to make a small contribution and were rewarded with a jar of delicious bee honey; thank you very much!
PC Upcycling
Our discarded desktop PCs were checked and permanently formatted by our trainees. They are now being given a second life thanks to the environmental organisation Nutzmüll e.V. Nutzmüll e.V. has been combining resource-conserving activities with social reintegration since 1984. Long-term unemployed people are given a perspective here, for example by refurbishing computers, doing meaningful work and actively contributing to environmental protection.
Summary
This shows once again how well environmental protection and social commitment go hand in hand: Reusing furniture and electronics helps to conserve resources and reduce waste. At the same time, we can support social projects and hopefully make both the world and society a little bit better.
Update
In the meantime (11/11/2024), our old telephone system has also found a new home via classified ads. It was taken over by another company that can still make good use of it.
