TYPO3 v14 LTS: What the upgrade offers users
With the release of TYPO3 v14 LTS, the CMS backend has been thoroughly overhauled. A range of improvements makes day-to-day work significantly easier for editors. The v14 upgrade focuses on clarity, efficiency and familiar UX patterns, ensuring that even new backend users can quickly find their way around.
Below, we take a look at the key new features in TYPO3 v14 LTS for editors and show how the CMS is already being used in production by our clients.
The new TYPO3 backend: clearer, more structured, more efficient
One of the most striking new features is the revamped backend. It looks much tidier, follows a consistent visual style and makes orientation noticeably easier.
Navigation has been fundamentally optimised: modules are arranged more logically and named more clearly. For example, “Filelist” has become “Media”, “List” has become “Records” and “Web” has become “Layout”. Functions are therefore immediately understandable – particularly for editors who do not work with TYPO3 on a daily basis.
In addition, various backend themes are available, as well as the option to switch between light and dark modes. A clearer visual hierarchy brings key actions more into focus and reduces cognitive load.
Optimised workflows for daily content management
TYPO3 v14 specifically improves content management by aligning with real-world editorial processes. Revamped wizards guide users through the creation of pages and content in a more structured manner, minimising potential sources of error.
A new editing mode significantly speeds up recurring tasks. Content can be edited efficiently and in context without interrupting the workflow. Users can still switch to the classic mode if required.
In addition, detailed improvements ensure greater reliability in day-to-day use: workspaces can be colour-coded, making it clear at all times which context you are working in.
In short: content management is becoming less process-driven and more workflow-oriented.
The modernised TYPO3 v14 dashboard
The dashboard has been further developed and now provides a quicker overview of relevant information. Improved widgets allow users to keep track of recently edited content, custom feeds or frequently used sections at a glance.
Editors can continue to customise their dashboard and tailor it to their working style.
Link Management in TYPO3
TYPO3 v14 also offers new features for managing links: in addition to the familiar redirect management, a range of new tools is now available.
These include an integrated QR code generator, which allows for flexible management of destination URLs, and a URL shortener for creating compact and easily shareable links. Both features are available directly within the backend and simplify daily tasks in content and campaign management.
TYPO3 v14 "under the hood"
In addition to the visible improvements, TYPO3 has also undergone significant technical development:
- new translation workflows
- support for modern translation formats (XLIFF 2.x)
- Fluid 5
- further developments in the Form Framework
- optimisation of Indexed Search
These measures enhance the platform’s stability, performance and future-proofing.
Long-term planning certainty with the LTS version
Like all LTS versions, TYPO3 v14 offers long-term support. Bug fixes will be provided until 31 December 2027, and security updates until 30 June 2029. This provides businesses with a reliable foundation for the long-term operation and further development of their digital platform.
Already in use: Taking off with TYPO3 v14
We are already using TYPO3 v14 in our projects – we utilise the sprint releases and have gone live with the first projects. A recent example is the website of Mineralquellen Bad Liebenwerda GmbH, which is part of the Rhönsprudel Group and ranks among the top ten companies in the mineral water industry in Germany.
The new features have already proven their worth in practical use and have been extensively tested in further real-world projects.
This means there is no need to wait for the official LTS release to benefit from the advantages. Whether it’s a relaunch, an upgrade or the further development of an existing platform – now is the ideal time to take the next step.
We already offer solutions based on TYPO3 v14 and support our clients from the initial consultation through to implementation – and beyond.
